@Pat,
just learned that they originally wanted to go and had booked a different venue / hotel, how ever they had delay in renovation schedule, so Eventcorp had to move to contigency and plan B. Which was to small and to spread out at the end.
How to compensate that you cant attend every session, record them on video and provide via iTunes, via the Website or via DVD to the delegates.
We will do that for the PMIQ chapter very shortly to provide the opportunity for members who couldnt attend to still watch the presentation of the presenter and the board.
And agree with the balance, how ever if you cant get the point across due to various reasons in the goven time frame its not worth attending at all.

Hi Torsten
Great review. I agree with much of it ... I never knew they expected (or said they expected 600 odd).
This was the first PMOz conference I had been to but not the first SEPG, although I haven't been to one in recent years.
I think it is a difficult task to build a conference over a number of years. I spoke to some of the PMOz folk and they have said it is now too big to hold in a hotel and they will need to move to a conference centre for the next one. So I suspect it is growing.
On the streams ... I am not sure how else you could handle that. You are after contributions and the conference also should have a theme ... hence the streams that attempt to be pretty broad within the theme. The balance is difficult ... but not sure how it could be handled better as the alternative is to have a "project management" or "software engineering" conference - no them etc ...
I do take your point. I presented at a PM conference in India about 2 years ago. It had around 2000 delegates and something 15 streams ... it was big and you missed out on a fair bit that you wanted to see. Should they have made it smaller - well perhaps you can ... but it may not be economical viable in the medium to long term.
I really do agree with you on the 20 minute presentation time though - not much chance to get your message across - I suspect 30 mins is a minimum from a presenter's perspective ... but they may reduce the number of papers, increase the number of streams or increase the number of days ... a delicate balance as I said.
Cheers
